Speakers & Resources

We were ministered to by dynamic, professional and inspired speakers: Rev. Dr. Timothy Quek, Edwin Anderson, and Kenold Knight. They challenged and encouraged us around the topics of motivation, relationships, and mental health.

Dr. Timothy Quek

Why are men challenged with motivation when it comes to family, church and ministry?

Dr Quek minstered powerfully on the topic of male motivation and underscored it effectively with the useage of scriptures. I would encourage you to rewatch his session. We will follow up with him when we release our podcast interviews.

Bio

Rev. Dr. Timothy Quek has served for many years as Senior or Lead Pastor at various churches in the GTA. He received his PhD in Psychology at York University, Toronto, and was in private practice for 23 years prior to his migration into full time ministry. His passion is in growing vibrant churches, the revival of churches in conflict or stagnation, the planting of new churches, and helping believers in Christ to walk the deeper life in Jesus. He lives in the City of Toronto with his wife, Bernice and their son, Daniel.

Edwin Anderson (click here for Bio)

Edwin Anderson from Life Care Counselling Centres began the opening session and engaged the men and young men with topics focussed on mental health and relationships. He brought an inspired and unique message on the Prodigal Son. As a practicing counsellor, his expertise proved relevant and meaningful.

Kenold Knight

As a National Ministry, we have invigorated our mandate with the focus of “Allying with boys and young men”. Therefore, everything we do must include those that are coming behind us!

The participating young men between 13 – 23 were not left out, and they had their own special session with Kenold Knight. He encouraged and engaged them with conversation and resources. Kenold also participated in the panel disscussion after lunch.

Bio

Kenold Knight grew up in Hamilton Ontario as the oldest of six children. Currently lives in Brantford Ontario, attending Gospel Life Community Worship Center and serves as an associate pastor, under the leadership of Pastor Dudley Francis. His childhood was very family oriented, and he learned much of his life skills from his hard-working parents. He heavily got involved with the church at the young age of 13; actively working in youth and young adult ministries. He is husband to his Bianca and father to Joshua who is 5 and Elijah who is 3 years old.

Kenold is an entrepreneur and business owner. Furthermore, Kenold was a basketball coach and trainer with over 12 years of experience working with young athletes from age 10 and up. Kenold has worked with nonprofit organization such as Liberty for Youth and United public leadership
academy For Youth in Hamilton. He previously was an assistant coach at
McMaster university and coached at the professional level. He is continuing his academic studies at Lee University in ministerial studies with an emphasis on counselling; he is a strong advocate for higher learning and education.

Kenold is very passionate about mentorship he has worked with the big brothers and sisters’ organization and has been a mentor too many young people within the church and community. He enjoys lifting weights, watching basketball, movies, TV shows and reading inspirational books. He is also a political junkie and enjoys diving into history books.

He believes that God has called him into ministry, to work for the kingdom of God. He believes that a relationship with God is the most essential aspect of Christianity, and each person must work diligently on growing that relationship every single day. He aspires to love God with all his heart, his mind, and his soul. To love his neighbors as he loves himself for, that will guide him in being a great ambassador for Christ!

Scott Armstrong (click here for Bio)

Scott Armstrong (Executive Director of Life Care Centres) participated in our Panel Discussion, and also was available for on site consultations to those men and young men who attended the Forum. He has been a supportive ally and partner to our ministry as we engaged in our planning process. We look forward to a great continuing partnership, and also hope that men and young men would be inclined to explore the possibilities and benefits of professional, Christian counselling.

Continuing the Conversation

Please note that Coming Soon, we’ll be following up with our guests with a series of Podcasts. This will also provide an opportunity for you to ask questions, solidify learning, and to be a part of the ongoing journey of Men and Young Men’s Ministry in Eastern Canada.

We Need Your Help

We are looking forward towards progress in our Eastern Canada Men and Young Men’s Ministry, however we absoutely need your feedback. Before planning this Forum, we took time to hear from you, and this shaped our focus towards the topics of motivation, relationship and mental health.

Could you please take a moment now and complete a short survey that will help us to improve our registration processes, and help plan future events such as a potential National Men and Young Men’s Weekend Retreat in 2024.

We are thankful for the many people who have had an instrumental part in making this Forum a success, and there are a long list of credits! Just to mention a few, thank you to our National Bishop Shelton Beneby and the National Office staff of Eastern Canada for their support in managing the logistics of planning.

We are grateful to Patrick Wilson and staff for our amazing lunch, and Onas Bailey the music coordinatior. Thanks to David Lewis for all of his essential and technical help, as well as the leadership and staff of West End Worship Centre and their AV team. Also, my personal administrative team that assisted me in the day to day tasks were invaluable.

The National Men’s Ministry team (and Regional Leaders) consisting of Howard Clarke, Asher Goombs, Fritz-Gerald Joseph, Heatman Nickleford, Percival Plummer, Rodney Pringle, Marshall Sharpe were responsible for mobilizing their men and young men. They are the engine that makes our National Team work.

Also, how can we do anything without the Local Men’s Leaders and their team members? Their efforts point to the final group which we serve and who also is the reason why we exist; thank you men and young men of Eastern Canada! Those who came from Ottawa and Montreal, you are indeed superstars! Without the participation from the East, West and GTA regions, we would have no one to minister to! Finally, we thank God for his wonderful blessings on this event and look forward to contining this journey and exploration of masculine identity.

Sincerely,

Israel Harriott (Men’s Ministry Director, Eastern Canada)
