Journaling

“A personal journal is an ideal environment in which to become. It is a perfect place for you to think, feel, discover, expand, remember, and dream.”

Brad Wilcox

My Journaling Journal

During university I broke up with a girl that I had been seeing for a few years, and it was during that time that I decided to keep a journal. Mind you, it helped with me trying to figure out how I was feeling in regards to that situation, but I found also that it brought clarity in many other areas of my life. During those personal times I wrestled with my desires, feelings and spiritual struggles in my life. I kept it going for about three or four years, almost everyday.

Although I don’t regularly keep one, and I plan to start, one of the amazing things has been the ability to look back 20 plus years and having a snapshot of how I was feeling and thinking. I stressed a lot about wanting a girlfriend, and contemplated about life… The most important thing that I realized was that all the things that I desperately wanted came to pass – so there was no need to stress… Journaling gave me a perspective on the sovereignty of God.

Another good thing that came out my journaling was the ability to share parts of it with my son. During his first ceremony I had for him (13 years old), I gave him excerpts from my journal as a Gift of Significance. I felt that would give insight from my life that could benefit his.

I have downloaded “Five Minute Journal” and I am seeing if this could work for me.

I have also downloaded (from the Play Store) “mySymptons Food & Symptom Tracker“. This is kind of like a journal, but you get the chance to record various elements of your life and make brief comments. The goal of the app is to see how your life is impacted by the elements you record. (It sounds a little confusing, I recommend trying it out.) It’s free, but the paid version (a few bucks) opens up all the features. There is a bit of a learning curve, but I think it’s worth it. (If you would like to review the app, contact us below with your comments.)

If you are a pen and paper guy, you might consider buying a physical journal. (Use whatever gets the job done!)
